W 2002 r. ukończył studia magisterskie na kierunku filologia słowiańska na Uniwersytecie Mikołaja Kopernika w Toruniu, gdzie 5 lat później uzyskał stopień doktora, a w 2020 r. – doktora habilitowanego w zakresie literaturoznawstwa. W latach 2019-2024 kierował Uniwersyteckim Centrum Doskonałości IMSErt – Interakcje: Umysł, Społeczeństwo, Środowisko. Wcześniej obejmował takie funkcje jak prodziekan Wydziału Filologicznego (2016-2019) oraz Wydziału Humanistycznego (2019-2020). Od 1 stycznia 2024 r. pełni funkcję assistant secretary-general w afiliowanej przy UNESCO Fédération Internationale des Langues et Littératures Modernes (FILLM), wcześniej był członkiem zarządu International Comparative Literature Association (2019-2022).
Ukończył studia podyplomowe Accelerated Management Program w Yale School of Management (Yale University, 2023) oraz Climate Change for Decision-Makers: Challenges, Transformations, Strategies w University of Cambridge (2024). W 2011 uczestniczył w pierwszej sesji Institute for World Literature (Pekin, Chiny), zorganizowanej przez Harvard University i Peking University.
Przebywał na stypendiach w: Institute for Advanced Study, University of Amsterdam (2021-2022), Institute on the Formation of Knowledge, University of Chicago (2016-2019), Harriman Institute na Columbia University w Nowym Jorku (2009), w Uniwersytecie Czech Południowych w Czeskich Budziejowicach (2007), Uniwersytecie w Lublanie (2004) oraz Uniwersytecie Karola w Pradze (2002-2003).
Otrzymał stypendium dla wybitnych młodych naukowców MNiSW (2012-2015), był także finalistą nagród naukowych „Polityki” (2014), realizował granty Narodowego Centrum Nauki i stypendia Fundacji na rzecz Nauki Polskiej. Od wielu lat ocenia wnioski grantowe w programach krajowych i zagranicznych, a także w projektach europejskich. Jego badania koncentrują się wokół historii intelektualnej Europy Środkowej i Wschodniej, historii idei oraz literatury porównawczej XIX i XX wieku. Jednym z głównych tematów badawczych prof. Adama Koli jest mechanizm transferu wiedzy jako zjawiska społecznego, historycznego, geopolitycznego oraz kulturotwórczego. Jest autorem trzech monografii, redaktorem wielu tomów zbiorowych i numerów monograficznych czasopism. Opublikował ponad 100 artykułów naukowych po polsku, czesku, rosyjsku, niemiecku i angielsku. Tłumaczył także teksty naukowe i historyczne z języka czeskiego i angielskiego.

Dr. Adam Kola graduated with a master’s in Slavic Philology from Nicolaus Copernicus University, Toruń, in 2002. He earned his Ph.D. in 2007 and completed his PhD in literary studies in 2020 at the same institution. From 2019 to 2024, he was the director of the University’s IMSErt Center of Excellence – Interactions: Mind, Society, Environment. Before this, he held positions as Vice Dean of the Faculty of Philology (2016-2019) and the Faculty of Humanities (2019-2020).
Since January 1, 2024, Dr. Kola has been the Assistant Secretary-General of the UNESCO-affiliated Fédération Internationale des Langues et Littératures Modernes (FILLM) after previously serving on the board of the International Comparative Literature Association (2019-2022).
In addition to his academic achievements, Dr. Kola completed postgraduate studies in the Accelerated Management Program at Yale School of Management (2023) and Climate Change for Decision-Makers: Challenges, Transformations, Strategies at the University of Cambridge (2024). He also participated in the inaugural session of the Institute for World Literature (Beijing, China, 2011), organized by Harvard University and Peking University.
Dr. Kola has held prestigious fellowships at several leading institutions, including the Institute for Advanced Study, University of Amsterdam (2021-2022); Institute on the Formation of Knowledge, University of Chicago (2016-2019); Harriman Institute at Columbia University (2009); University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice (2007); University of Ljubljana (2004); and Charles University in Prague (2002-2003).
Among his many accolades, Dr. Kola received the Ministry of Science and Higher Education’s scholarship for outstanding young scientists (2012-2015) and was a finalist for Polityka magazine’s science awards (2014). He has successfully led research grants from the National Science Center and the Foundation for Polish Science. Additionally, he has served as an evaluator for numerous grant applications in domestic and international programs, including European projects.
Dr. Kola’s research focuses on the intellectual history of Central and Eastern Europe, the history of ideas, and comparative literature of the 19th and 20th centuries. A key area of his work explores the mechanisms of knowledge transfer as a social, historical, geopolitical, and cultural phenomenon. He has authored three monographs, edited numerous collective volumes and special issues of academic journals, and published over 100 scientific articles in Polish, Czech, Russian, German, and English. He is also a translator of academic and historical texts from Czech and English.
